Challenge #5: CREATE A SCENE

Good Morning!!
This is Tanvi wishing you all a very happy & joyous festive season on behalf of all of us here.
Thank you all for your participation in SPREAD YOUR WINGS WITH DISTRESS INKS CHALLENGE..................and we are delighted to see the numerous entries & am sure you  are loaded with ideas to make the best use of your distress inks.
This month we have another interesting theme - CREATE A SCENE. When we discussed this theme I was  unsure  - whether I had the kind of supplies required! But as the concept evolved, I was surprised & I am sure so will you be..........................our most basic supplies like PP, dies, inks, stamps, embellishments, punches, embossing folders, etc can be put together to create any kind of scene. Wait a minute,  look at the inspiration from our conceptualists, and you will know what I mean.............

Khusboo has used a border skyline die  from Dienamics & sentiment to make a cityscape.......


Poornima's diorama box is simply adorable. What better use of Memory Box dies - Modern Landscape, Tessatina Border, Summer Border , Puffy Clouds, Woodland Branch. 


 Priya has this dazzling Diwali card & look at the use of distress inks - Barn Door, Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed, Peeled Paint, Peacock Feathers to create that background. The border skyline & grass dies are from Dienamics.

Create Quick Backgrounds with Distress Inks

Hello Everyone,

This is Poornima here to share few more ideas on distress inks. There are tons of tutorials already on internet. I am just sharing some techniques which I tried and made few variations to get awesome looking backgrounds.

1. Color Blocking Technique –
The first technique is Color Blocking Technique. It requires foam pads. Watch Tim’s videos on how to do this. This technique is really very simple and one can create quick backgrounds with this. This is one sample which have I tried


You can leave this background as such or for more detailing stamp images

So if you don't have appropriate pattern paper for your project , you can make your own easily.

Now some variations which I tried with Color Blocking Technique. These variations requires Mini Mister. 

Variation 1 - To get soft pastel background,  mist the paper with water first and then add colors blocks.

Variation 2 - To get bright colored background, add color blocks and then mist the paper. Don't mist it heavily.

Variation 3 - Foam pads can be used to get totally different background. When I was trying color blocking technique, an idea pooped into my mind and I got this background. It has wood like texture. I loved it very much.

To get above result,
  1. Ink up your foam pad.You can ink only half foam.
  2. Hold it an angle and swipe it till the end of the paper.
  3. Repeat the process on opposite sides and in between.
Here’s another sample which I made. Since distress inks are also stamping inks, so I stamped flourish with walnut stain distress ink. The edges are inked with vintage photo.

2. Archival Resist – 
This is also a very simple technique. It requires any archival ink. I have used colorbox ink. Since archival inks are oil based permanent inks, so distress inks resist the archival ink stamped images. An idea how it looks.

3. Distress Ink with Glue – 
Glue can be used to create interesting backgrounds .First apply distress ink to paper. Then add glue drops  at several places . Apply other color of distress ink. I have not applied distress ink after adding glue. I  have also added hot glue with glue gun. It resist's distress inks.

Double Resists using Distess Inks

Hiya Folks,
         Today we shall see some interesting Topic on Distress Inks - Double Resist.  Khushboo has already written a post on Magical Embossing. If you had nt read it already. This post might be considered as a continuation of it. And my inspiration for this post comes from

 Please feel free to go through the above link. It has some awesome inspiration and step by step Tutorial.


           So coming back to Resist, there are quite a few items, that resist the distress Inks. To name a popular few,
  1. Clear Embossing Powder
  2. UTEE
  3. Studio Multi Medium
  4. Glossy Accents
  5. Gesso
  6. Wax Paper
  7. Crayon
  8. Distress Crackle Paint
  9. Acrylic paint
  10. True Snow
I have tried to give some samples for the combination for the above resists.

       
How is Double Resist Done?

  •            Choose a medium for first resist - stamp or stencil or any way u like it.
  •            Apply 4-5 different color Distress inks in BG.The inks will resist the above medium
  •            Choose the second medium of your resist - This must give a clear resist, so that the colors behind should be visible
  •            Now apply a dark colored Distress ink over. This will be resisted by both the mediums.

Still Confused? Ok. Let me show you..

         First Resist medium here is Studio Multi medium applied through crackle stencil.I then spread different colored distress inks over it. Now I stamped the Hero Arts Square Background and clear embossed it.
Different colors below are visible now below the heat embossed area. Some Vintage Photo over the whole paper and Tada Double Embossing done!!

This card has both the layers heat Embossed.

Tip
         
            While choosing stamps or other medium for 
Layer 1 - always choose those that have thin lines or occupies much less space in the BG.
Layer 2 - always choose those that are larger and occupies more space in the BG, so that more colors in BG are visible below it.

Distressing ideas

Hey folks,

Firstly happy Pujas for those who celebrate it and happy Dussehra too.. This post was supposed to go live on the 12th but I have been doing a city tour of pandals as part of a group and well.. I was out the entire night and working non-stop to write a review for a magazine on the pandals which gave me no time to breathe or sleep, hence, the delay. But no excuses anymore...

I am just showcasing a quick idea on how you can use your distress inks to make quick cards... This card I took 40 Minutes to create and  a lot of hours to conceptualize and execute to my perfection.. I wasted a bit of card stock because was not happy with the results but finally managed to make a decent attempt of it..



I used my distress inks to make up a country side scene... Distress inks are perfect for creating beautiful scenes.. The clouds are made using a hand-drawn and fussy cut template and using broken china distress ink and for the green part.. I cut a rough sheet of paper the exact size of my base and cut off the bottom part as a grass-strewn cliff.. I then masked the rest of the paper with that template and blended in with peeled paint distress ink... rest is all stamps and inks.. Oh the birds are hand-drawn.. Went back to school days when these were the only kind of birds I knew how to draw.. *wink*

stamps=> HOTP and Darcie
Black archival ink and pale tomatoes mid-tone shadow ink

Distress Ink Tags

Hello crafty people!!!
This is Tanvi with another post to inspire you all to use your distress inks. As you all know we have extended this theme for our challenge too because we thought there are loads of ways to use distress inks as Rajni says "Spread your wings with distress inks"
Before I move on to my post would like to inform you all that Priya & Poornima are unwell & hence have not been able to share their crafty ideas but they will both be back with a bang soon! Wishing you both a speedy recovery ladies...............get well soon, you are missed!!

Sharing two tags today & since Rajni has inspired us all so much to make gorgeous flowers, I too tried my hand at making blooms. These were stamped (penny black - petal party) & colored with distress inks.


I have used my favorite distress ink colors here - mustard seed, spiced marmalade & fired brick. One tip - invest in a craft sheet its definitely worth it, I see a lot of difference in distressing since I started using one.

  Isn't this a beauty!! See that glossy smooth shine..........wait for my next post for details.


These look stunning by mere coloring, wait until you feast on the next picture.............a little dash of perfect pearls over these & see the transformation!!!
  

These are the elements of the tag I made...............all with distress inks.
The white spots on the BG of the tag were obtained by using crayon resist & the gold spots (was not able to capture these well) by splattering with perfect pearls mixed with water. Distressing with vintage photo over the dry embossed CS also gave an amazing effect.

Also made another tag for the festive season in which I used perfect pearls on embossed CS. Gold over black an awesome combo.

Challenge #4:Spread your Wings with Distress inks Extended!!!

Hello lovely people,

             What lovely months it had been!! OMG!! Such beautiful entries in the challenge!!! Thanks a lot guys for your enthusiastic participation!!  You are really giving us a tough time, choosing the winners!!

           There are many many ways of using Distress inks and we DTs feel one month's time is not sufficient to show all the techniques of using these Magical inks!!!  So we are continuing it for one more month.
