Challenge #6 : Stamping Techniques

Hello ladies,

         We are here again to announce this month challenge. Last month's challenge had some inspirational posts from DTs. And your love for them showed in the comments.But I wanted to tell you, please stick to the rules. It feels bad to see some entries getting eliminated, because they have not followed the rules.Results for the Challenge 5 will be announced soon

       I wanted to set an easy challenge. So here we have ,

Welcoming our New DT for Second Term

Hiya,

      It is going to be six months, from the day we started our blog!! This has been a truely amazing journey. I had enjoyed every bit of it - the learning, crafting, chit chats, gossips and much fun!! And I believe our DT had great time too!! It is time to THANK them for all the hardwork and efforts they put in ! And I keep getting messages from you all , how you enjoy the tutorials and projects shown in the blog.

     But we bidding farewell to two of our DT members 
Khushboo Rathi - This busy bee is getting married in 2 days and you know she will be busy some more time too ;)
        
Poornima Jain - This awesome tutorial lady has some personal commitments.So she bade farewell with heavy heart.

Well this ones for a little introduction about myself... I am a full time crafter.. Have degrees in M.C.A. Worked with an MNC for four yrs. then worked with a hospital in clinical research for two yrs... Left my job when I conceived my second baby.. :)  I am a mother to two lovely kids.. boy 7yrs,  girl 1 1/2 yrs.. My husband is a senior consultant doctor in hospital.. OOPS all this might be sounding too much and i might be sounding too old.. :P But hey..
I am only 33 yrs and love to craft..  :)
I love to put colors in my project and love butterflies and flowers.. have a soft corner for tilda.. and love to color stamped images.. hence u can say i love to make shabby chic projects.. but i am really afraid of making mix media projects as I still feel i'm novice to this style.. 
I am a fun loving girl n love to roam around the world.. I love to travel.. hence I,m waiting to come to chennai to meet u... just waiting for ur invitation.. ;)  :P

Use your stamps,dies and distress inks to create a garden scene....

Hello friends..

Once again, Rajni here from Passionately Curious. This time I m sharing a picture tutorial of a scene card that I shared as an inspiration for you in the beginning of current challenge. This is my very first picture tutorial. I have tried to cover most of all the steps. Being it my very first tutorial, I am bit nervous as all the step by step pictures are clicked by me....the thing I always avoided. Hope I m not that bad in doing that.

Now lets begin with the card.

Sizes
1. Main card base of 5"x 6" 
2. card used for creating a scene is 3.5"x 6"

  To start with...first cut a cloud out of small felt piece and stick it to a blending tool. Stamp few clouds on upper half of the 3.5'x 6' off white self textured card stock using Tim Holts Picket Fence Distress Paint. White on white won't show much but it will be visible after applying distress inks.


I have used Withered Wood, Bunddled Sage, Wild Honey, and a little touch of Aged Mohaghany and Vintage Photo on edges.The clouds start popping up after giving them a color. Distress paint acts as a  resist to distress inks. You can wipe of the excess of distress inks with baby wipes if you want. now sprinkle little water with your hands and dry it using heat tool.




Stamp with  Kaiserkraft Music Stamp and Humming Bird Stamp using Black Archival Ink.


Take any scrap paper and tear it in the shape of grass land. Color it with Mowed Lawn and Vintage Photo.



Place it on the card as shown using foam tapes and cut the extra.


Cut few pcs of grass from the left out.




Now onto flowers....
I have used PTI Sunflower stamp to make flowers. Stamp two big flowers and two small flowers with Wild Honey DI, one big flower center and one small flower center with black archival ink and few big n small leaves with Mowed Lawn DI.




 Fussy cut all images with any small n sharp scissors. Give little deep cuts between the flower petals. 





Now give little more color to your flowers by adding Rusty Hinge. Also color the leaves using Wild Honey and Vintage Photo. Color the flower centers with Vintage Photo.Emboss them from the back using embossing tool and perforated pad. Also give a little shape to leaves .




Assemble both the flowers by keeping both flower petals one on other using glue. Complete the flower by keeping flower center using foam tape on top.



Cut one piece each from  Sizzix Fence die and Memory Box Cycle Die. Add a little color using Vintage Photo and Black Soot.  




Now you are ready with all you want for the garden scene. You just need assembling. For the small flowers I have used small daisy punch.



 Line up your card leaving 1.4"and stamp the sentiment using black archival ink. Sentiment is from Technique Tuesday Stamp Set.

Note...Always keep a perforated pad under your sheet while stamping. You will never miss the image and more over the image is more crisp and sharp when stamped using perforated pad. Its my personal experience...just try...u will love it. 




Adhere the scene using foam tapes.
 
Note...Here I want to add something. After so much of coloring we generally spoil the back of our card. I don't know about others,,,but it  generally happens with me. If some part of my card shows from back ....i try to cover it with a piece of fresh card stock. . It adds a little more beauty to my card. 



Another good tip...
I always make a sandwich of  red tacky tape and foam tape to give more strength to my cards, The Layers won't come out easily.

 Here is what I did here.First layer is red tacky tape...

Andd....next layer is foam tape and then again a tacky tape on top.



Now add rest of the layers.

Create a Scene using Distress Inks

Hello Peeps, 

      Priya here again to meet you all with some scene cards.. This is my third post for the month and believe  me, I have so much more ideas to show you!, but we are running short of time..I tried my hands at distress inks, to create scene. Here are a few.




Distress Inks : Old paper, Peeled Paint, Mustard seed, Spiced Marmalade, Vintage Photo


This is my old card, i created for distress ink challenge

Mustard seed, Spiced Marmalade, Barn  Door,Fired Brick

Tried a similar card, but with different color families. Instead of heat embossing, I did  double stamping to give that dreamy effect


Peeled Paint, Peacock Feathers, Worn Lipstick, Dusty Concord

I wanted to make night scene card,and this is what I came up with!! I had been waiting to use this sentiment for ages!!

You know what, I am a fan of moon and sea. We stay close by beach and during  full moon, we make sure we visit beach , to enjoy the beauty of it!! If you get chance, do try a moon rise.. 

I tried to bring it in the card. and I just loved it!! I had no stamps for this scene.. So I drew with black marker.

 This is another try.. I could also add 1 or 2 birds and make it a friendship card

All black sentiments stamped with Archival ink. Sentimets are PTI Signature Greetings. I cant have enough of this stamp!!

Regain your lost Crafting MOJO - Get Inspired !!!!

Warning: this is a talky post

         We all need MOJO and inspiration to start crafting! A missing MOJO is scary and boring and frustrating. But where do we find that light of hope that would brew up a series of lovely ideas in our brains and keep it going till you drop dead! 

Inspired by Others Work
         Well, after I was introduced to an Indian Crafting site it opened up a new world to me...with loads of crafters ...some who have become my best friends along the way and a road to blogging! Once into blogging the only way I learnt or got inspired or saw people getting inspired was by others work...well to me that surely is a good thing ...to learn from others but that cant be the only way to get inspired!

Books and Magazines
        Much before the world of blogging and FB took over I use to sit with my family and craft...with ideas from books and magazines...something that my mom taught me and believe me that's the best thing to do. Seeing others work on FB or blogs or Youtube or Pinterest and learning from them somewhere down the line blocks your mind, restricts your own creativity. One could say, wont craft books and magazines do the same? Well, my answer to that one is -NO!

      The Craft Book and Magazines that talk about techniques and styles are the one which you should buy...borrow to read etc. 

      Apart from a typical Craft book and Magazine....an interior designing book, home decor magazine is a crafters next best friend. Sometimes the colour combos that the home stylists use for decorating the interiors of a house could help you with some out of the box creation....a colour combo which you might not use otherwise....





          A costume styling book or magazine could also have loads of matter to inspire you. If you are someone, who uses a lot of fabric also in his/her scrapbook or smash book this is actually the place to take a peep. You may want to try making some pockets with chiffon/net/laces/velvet....they dont only add that glamour to your project but also create and differentiate it from other crafters work. Again they do widen your knowledge on color combos....and textures that could be the icing on the cake for your projects. Not to forget, the trims or ribbons we so often flaunt are a part of costume styling!




           Food magazines are another place to look for some inspiration! A beautiful looking mousse or cake or a  nice cream is a piece for colour inspirations. They teach you about blending colours ...layering of colours   and the proportion in which each colour could be used to create the magic.






       Read some books on designing, colour combinations etc...they unblock your mind from the same old stuff that you may find every single person doing around you....coz believe me after a year I got bored of getting inspired from blogs and turned to all of the above for inspirations and that is definitely a breathe of fresh air! 
           Journalling and styles on calligraphy and designing the alphabets is also a good read and tells you on how you can plan your fonts etc. for your sentiments.

Anything and Everything
      When you next time buy crockery for your kitchen do look deeper for designs and colours that you could incorporate in crafting!



       You guys might find me crazy if I tell you I don't leave a stone unturned to peep into my neighbours house to see what furniture or home decor they have tried or what new dresses or sarees they recent bought...and believe me they all know for sure its for crafting inspiration and not coz am into clothes! Your favourite shawl, bed sheet, curtain or duppatta could be used as inspiration to craft too!,I also dig into my friends bags and wallets and purses....sometimes they have beautiful patterns that could be the stepping stone to a great project! I remember Neha Bhatt and her card inspired from a bag she owned!

       Having taking her name, I should share what she once shared with me, like her am into quotes big time and believe me they (quotes) can give you an idea for a card design or a mixed media canvas to shape up beautifully. Revolving your card around a favourite or beautiful quote is not only interesting but very much a fun thing to do...try your hands on it ! Do it with your favourite song or a film title.....you will see what crazy ideas flow into your mind.

      Go to exhibitions....theres a lot you learn there...they dont specifically have to be a craft exhibition....

         The list is endless, just look around you and you can see inspiration on design and colour combinations all around you.....open your mind and breathe in and take in as much as you can for the real world as way too much to inspire you! 

Document your Inspirations for future reference

  • Carry a journal/ notebook with you always to jot down your ideas .
  • Click a pic of any object that inspires you ...stick it on your journal for a future reference. 
  • Chop off a piece of fabric that got you inspired and staple it on the journal.
  • Make notes when you watch a youtube video.This will not only help you go through some ideas you may have had but have not tried or help you remember a brilliant idea that you may have forgotten if it was not noted on your journal.

    When it comes to listing books its difficult as my bookshelf has too many crafting and designing books to label here....hehehhe but they are all my favourite as they have helped me to learn and ideate.
