Impression Obsession Stamps and dies in store!!

welcome to the color conceptions challenges blog!

I have been invited by the sweet Priya Sivaraj to make something for the challenge #1 using baker's twine..

here is my take on the challenge along with a lil tutorial on how to make the sweetest paper streamers for your party! :)

I absolutely love bakers twine and the versatality it gives to any project.. cards, bookmarks, tags- you name it and bakers twine has a use! :)

without further ado here's my bookmark.. i enjoyed doing this one thoroughly! 


the background has been sprayed with memento fireworks in lady bug, distressed with fired brick, stamped and embossed in white.. the stamp set is 'asian inspired' by fiskars.. the bloom is handmade with the MFT layered rose die.. sentiment from the MFT set..

the tutorial :)

i gathered all the supplies i needed.. 
jef heart punch, 1.5" ek success circle stacking punch, the heart doily die cuts using the heart doily die.. bakers twine.. distress ink-seedless preserves..


i punched all the shapes i needed.. on one streamer ive used 4 doilies.. you can increase/decrease as per the requirement..


layered the shapes using foam tape..


little hot glue on the back of the doily to adhere the twine.. and thats it!! i used a sweet printed button on the bottom end to tie up.. :)


i made a couple of other shapes.. :) i have had so much fun with these! used different supplies on each.. feel free to drop a comment if you have any questions.. :)

DISTRESS PAINTS - 1


This is Tanvi wishing you all a very good morning, here to share my first post on DISTRESS PAINTS. 
Hope you are having fun with all our activities, please do share your work with bakers twine in our first challenge – A NEW BEGINNING & USE BAKERS TWINE. We have some amazing inspiration on the use of bakers twine lined up for you this month……………….make sure you drop in often or better still follow us so you do not miss out something.

I am here today to introduce the newest product to join the ranger distress family – DISTRESS PAINTS, announced at CHA Winter 2013. And take my word for it, once you use these versatile paints you cannot do without them……………I am kind of getting obsessed with these!!!

WHAT ARE DISTRESS PAINTS?
  •  Distress Paints are very fluid water-based acrylic paints for multiple surfaces.
  • These special paints are developed to be reactive with water just like Distress Inks and Distress Stains—perfect to accomplish a wide variety of artistic techniques.
     WHAT ARE THE COLORS AVAILABLE?

     Distress paints are available in 27 colors that coordinate with the Distress palette in 1 oz. bottles with a very convenient dabber system application which I will show you in a while.

HOW DO THEY DIFFER FROM DISTRESS INKS/STAINS


DISTRESS PAINTS
DISTRESS STAINS/INKS
Fluid water based acrylic paints
Fluid water based dyes
Can be used of multiple surfaces – paper, fabric, metal, glass
Can be used only on paper & other porous surfaces
Once the paint is dry it does not rewet – so can be easily layered with inks/stains
React with water even after they are dry
Single layer gives a deep vibrant color
Several layers have to be applied to get a deeper color

HOW DO I USE THESE?

Distress Paints come in bottles with a mixing ball inside. They have a convenient dabber system for easy application with a built-in spring valve. To use shake the bottle, simply press down on the valve repeatedly to release the paint & soak the dabber top. Just shake, dab & dry……………no mess at all!!!
You can -
  • paint straight from the bottle onto a surface with the dabber tip
  • squeeze onto the surface & swipe
  • open the bottle & use a paint brush
  • add it to your palette &  use, as any other paint to add color to your objects
  • use it with a palette knife
WHY SHOULD I USE DISTRESS PAINTS?


  • Very fluid water-based, multi-surface acrylic paint
  • reactive with water while the paint is wet allowing some great blending ability and awesome textural effects.
  • once dry; they don’t rewet so you’re able to layer these with the other distress products like inks and stains to achieve unbelievable effects. (This  makes them different from inks & stains which react with water)
  • palette of colors from the distress line will make it easy to coordinate with other distress products too.  
  • matte finish on craft projects
  • convenient dabber system application
  • create astonishing backgrounds, embellishments, layouts, cards
  • colors stay rich and vibrant
  • paint dries with a nice smooth opaque finish.
These are incredible paints with some very innovative properties unlike any other paints & so so so easy to use. Can’t believe, right? Wait until I show you pictures!!

WHERE CAN THESE BE USED?
  •      on a number of surfaces – paper, grunge board, plastic, wood, metal, chipboard, fabric, ribbons, laces, canvas, vellum, acetate and many more.
  •  with stamps, embossing folders, stencils, templates, masks or simply with your fingers.
In the picture below I have used the paint on different surfaces………………..left some part uncolored to show you the original surface.












Ok,  enough of gyan on the paints let me now show you some results.

A. In this tag I squeezed some mowed lawn, picked raspberry & salty ocean paints directly onto the tag, added washi tape & stamped………..its that simple.


B. For this tag I squeezed salty ocean & mowed lawn paints on my mat, spritzed with water & swiped the tag……………..isn’t that an amazing background? Add a washi tape, stamp, embellish……………. & u have a tag in a few minutes.


C.The BG of this tag is picked raspberry.  I let it dry & then dabbed salty ocean onto the tag directly from the bottle. Washi tapes once again & another tag ready!!



This was my first experiment with distress paint (by now you all know I love experiments!!!) & was not disappointed, they are certainly worth having in your craft room. THE CRAFT SHOP now stocks the entire range of distress paints.........& I will have to pick a few more colors.

         Our design team girls are so special.. It is just a short time, since we had come together as a Team..We are already enjoying our little crafty chats and leg pulling sessions, behind the screens!! It is so much fun!They were not given much time for this challenge,yet they came up with wonderful inspirations,for you!! Well done girls!!
