Creating Backgrounds and Textures for your Mixed Media Projects- Part 1

Hi all...am hoping that you like the new challenge and are having fun while you join us for the same. Though the challenge is not entirely dedicated to Mixed Media and can have textures of any kind -through dry embossing...using fabrics or laces etc ..the options are endless but as we know Mixed Media is by far the most "textured" art/craft form. So here I  am showing you ways to create your backgrounds and textures for the Mixed Media projects!!!

So lets get on with today's topic: Background textures with Tissue Papers, stamps, gesso, stencils, studio multi medium gel, distress inks and Faber Castell PITT Artist Pens-Metallic....

I have used the Tissue paper that are usually found in shirt/t shirt packing or some goods packing...similar material is used by Graphic 45 and Tim Hotlz...there are a whole lot of links to show Tissue papers and alcohol inks blending to have coloured tissues but I have not used alcohol inks..lets have a look...

This tissue paper came with my Mac lappy...so I have used Dylusions Stamps with Stazon to stamp on it...

I have then taken another stamp set for script stamp....again stamped with Stazon...

Smeared gesso on a canvas and put the tissue paper over it...allowed it to dry a little and then smeared it with gesso again....

Took a scrap cloth and removed the semi dry Gesso from some parts to reveal the stamping....

Coloured it with Studio Acrylic Paints...these are the shimmer series so the blue and green have a light golden sheen to it.

After colouring the entering canvass ..I have again smeared gesso on some parts and removed it with a scrap cloth....and then on one side placed my TCW bricks stencils and fixed it with some masking tape....

Smeared over with Studio Multimedia gel....and allowed it to dry...this makes the areas ink resistant...the technique has been explained at length in my previous post...to see click here.

Inked with distress inks....you can see that the stamped image has gone slightly blurr and seems overpowered with the bricks....I somehow didnt like the effect as it did not match what was in my brains when I conceived the idea...so...I wondered and wondered for long and then.....

I took my Faber Castell PITT pens- Metallic Gold (and I have the Aquarelle sets too...which I love...best for mixed media and art journals.) and traced the stamped image but with a free hand...as in I did not try and trace the stamping line by line but roughly ...to make it look like a free hand drawing....

This is how the final effect looks like on the project.....

This is my DT inspiration complete project ....

Hope you guys like the techniques/procedures shown by me.....in my next post I shall talk about another textures that one can create with ease!!! Till then enjoy the challenge and have fun crafting....
